Tom Scanlan is a consultant in Spencer Stuart's New York office and specializes in recruiting senior human resources executives across all industries. As a member of the firm's Human Resources Practice, Tom focuses his search work on senior generalists, organization development, talent management and compensation and benefits.
Tom also is a member of the firm's Education, Nonprofit & Government and Technology, Communications & Media practices. He combines this knowledge of both industries to find talent with the transferable skills who will excel in the emerging education services sector. Clients in this sector range from DeVry University and Educate (Sylvan Learning Systems) to Cornell University and New York University.
Tom joined Spencer Stuart in 1997 during the beginning of the Internet boom, and his early search work focused heavily in the technology sector. Prior to joining the firm, he was the assistant corporate secretary of the Prudential Insurance Company of America, in addition to holding various management positions in the company's financial services operations. At Prudential, he worked with the board of directors to formulate online and offline retail distribution and capital allocation strategies and address a wide range of corporate governance issues. Tom also was the secretary of the Prudential Foundation, which provides grants to improve education and healthcare for under-served children.
Tom is a graduate of Georgetown University, with an A.B. in English. He earned his M.B.A. from Columbia University Graduate School of Business. Tom also holds a certificate in Human Resources Management from Cornell University’s School of Industrial and Labor Relations.
